Oh, and in case you were wondering wtf a “spoonie” is, nope, it doesn’t refer to my love of cuddling my husband. A spoonie is a chronic health warrior, and I'm proud to be kicking butt and thriving with five autoimmune diseases.
Want to know the second-worst advice I’ve ever received?
Let me set the scene. There I was: A daughter of the Girlboss and Lean In generation. The Nice Girls Don’t Get the Corner Office generation. And a young woman so desperate to make a name for myself that I literally couldn’t remember the last time I’d got more than four hours of sleep.
All around me, men were effortlessly climbing the career ladder while I was being sidelined, silenced, and second-guessed.
I knew I was in a world built by men for men. So, I dug my heels in, grit my teeth, and told myself absolutely nothing would get in my way – come hell or high water, I’d “make” it. I hustled, pushed, and fought my way to the top.
(Fr, I shudder at the number of times I proclaimed the words “blood, sweat, and tears” like they were a badge of honor.)
And you know what? It still wasn’t enough.
When I voiced my frustrations, they said: “You just have to work harder.”
Seriously?! That was their advice? (And, btw, a sentiment repeated by many men and women to this day. Looking at you, Kim K.) It took me a looong time to learn the truth. Because, nope, you don’t need to “lean in, hustle, and work twice as hard” to achieve half of what men have. There’s a better way.
In my younger years, I’d yearned for a woman in a position of power who was bold enough to stand up, show up, and tackle these issues head-on. I never found her. Years later, as I repeated the same complaint, a friend said: “I think that’s you now, babe.”
Lightbulb moment. Suddenly, all those years I’d spent frustrated and fighting were given purpose.
Today, I’m here to guide you in unapologetically getting what you want at work. Together, let’s turn the tide toward true workplace equality by dismantling biases and empowering you to claim your rightful place at the table with confidence, courage, and conviction.

→ You’re called “bossy” while your male co-worker is “assertive”.
